The Heritage Behind Toghu
The Heritage Behind Toghu
Toghu — sometimes written Atoghu — is the ceremonial fabric of Cameroon's Northwest and Grassfields regions. Historically reserved for royalty, elders, and those of standing within the community, it is recognisable instantly: deep black velvet, embroidered with gold thread in motifs that carry specific meanings.
What the motifs mean
Each embroidered symbol tells you something about the wearer: lineage, clan, standing, the occasion being honoured. The embroidery is not decoration. It is language.
Why it still matters
At Bisorich's Empire, we work with artisans from the regions where Toghu originated. Every gown, robe, and two-piece we produce carries that lineage — not as a gimmick, but as a commitment to the people and culture that gave us this extraordinary cloth.
When you wear Bisorich Toghu, you are wearing the real thing.
